Blog Project – Task 7

There are a lot of problems in the world like wars, diseases and economical disasters. The biggest crisis of them all is global warming. In the following, I am going to view some of the causes and show why the climate is changing and then I will point out some solutions that can be done to reduce this problem. Finally, I will provide my point of view on how to make a green world.

Solar energy reaches the earth’s atmosphere and 50% of radiation that comes from the sun reflects to space (
Earth systems: processes and issues , ByErnst, Wallace G.). The rest comes in our earth surface, 30% of the sunlight to keep us warm. The 20% of radioactivity that comes from the sun should reflect again to the space but the greenhouse gases lock the way out for this dangerous radioactivity. As long as we use our technology the greenhouse gases percentage will increase and more harmful radiation will make the weather hotter. We are in very sensitive situation; the whole weather is changing and the ice in the Arctic poles is melting; this will make a serious problem in increasing sea level; the scientists expect “in 2100 the sea level will be 10.5-21 in (27-50 cm) higher than today”.(Freedman, Bill)

There are some solutions which could help us to save our planet from the global warming. Clean energy is one of the most important solutions. We should use the renewable energy that has zero carbon
emissions like solar, wind, and others. We should start to build our cities with the solar panels and wind turbines. Yet another solution is that we must create new laws that force all businesses to stop buying or selling carbon emissions stuff in the world market. In the U.S.A they have started this idea in California.(California. Global Warming Solutions Act). Anybody breaking this law should face the judge and take the punishment. We should create a lot of awareness in the public so they could understand our problem and act positively. The media are the main target to start self awareness for the public.

Finally, people around the world should start to act seriously because we don’t have another place to go. The earth is our home and we should protect it from all risks. I hope in the future greenhouse gases problem will be easy to solve with the new technology that we will invent.

Cool Cities

The main problem is that modern cities have many sources of carbon that causes pollution like cars and factories and burning oil to create electricity. Most carbon comes from building and transportation (The National) and that makes the city more hot and dirty and that makes the life hard in this city.

There are many solutions but the main solution comes from one of a construction company and its name is SDCJ from Japan .There are many types of transportation that are used in cool city. Some of these types are hybrid cars and solar ships. Also there are many zones in cool city; some of these zones are business, commercial/cultural and residential. Because of the heat there are many techniques to keep it cool and one of these techniques is underground canals and directing the wind to keep it cool and these buildings can reduce Co2 by 80%. And the reduction of energy in cool city is 60%.

I think that this is a good invention and this will help people to live in a clean city without carbon and diseases and if all cites in the earth do it the earth will be cooler to live in. I hope that other countries will follow our country.

My carbon footprint

The carbon footprint is the amount of GHG emissions you personally are responsible for. I measured my carbon footprint on the website and it was 2.97. http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/

The website shows me that I need above 3 planets to live in, but comparing with other student my rate was low, may be because I don’t eat that much and I don’t like to drive my car as much as my classmates. Ahmed Salem who is one of my classmates measured his carbon footprint and the result was 4.36. I think the difference between him and me is very clear because Ahmed wouldn’t have any problem if he drove his car for a whole day. However, the problem is not in our class only because our country has the highest carbon footprint per head. According to the website the UAE estimated the footprint at 11.9 gha (global hectares) per person. http://archive.gulfnews.com/supplements/abudhabi_2008/more_stories/10200240.html

All in all, we must make a movement to reduce this high amount of our country and that firstly belongs to us. We must change our bad habits exactly in the use of cars, but actually we can’t do anything for the main factors of raising the country footprint’s which are the rapid growth in population and the economy also.

Blog project - Task 4

According to Brandon Fibbs you can see many positive points on this movie. He said that everybody must see this film otherwise he will be asked by his grandchildren to explain why he didn’t. In Brandon Fibbs, review I found some arguments to emphasize that film is very good. The first is talking about the photographic evidence; he described it as “the most shocking thing of all”, and the second is the graphs and charts which are in his point of view enough to convince even the most ardent skeptic. Another argument is the scientific views and research in the Global Warming issue and the number of floods, hurricanes and the range of droughts that we’re seeing all over the world. As a result of all of these arguments, Fibbs converted the global warming from hypothetical theory into a real fact.

In fact, when I read Eric’s review I completely understood what
Brandon Fibbs mean by ardent skeptic. But also Eric has his arguments against this movie and he asks for more evidence. The first argument for Eric is that Al Gore has political goals from this lecture more than thinking about the moral issue. Another argument is that photographic evidence might be taken at two different seasons of two different years. The last argument is that the lecture is lacking in references.

In this paragraph I’m going to comment on both reviews from my point of view. I agree with
Brandon Fibbs that the film was very good and effective, but Fibbs’s review makes people shocked more than the film itself when he exaggerates some points. For example he said: “within the next decade—we face an apocalyptic future. Once the tipping point is passed, we will begin the slide towards the destruction of most life on this planet” and “If things are even half as bad as Al Gore says they are in An Inconvenient Truth, we are very likely looking at the end of all humankind”. Of course I disagree with that and I’m thinking that in the future I might send my son to Fibbs to say to him: hi Fibbs, I’m one of the humankind and I’m still alive, are you surprised?. However, on the flip-side Eric was complaining and classifying this movie as a political movie, but actually he was thinking about Al Gore himself more than the movie.

An Inconvenient Truth

Blog Project - Task 3 (An Inconvenient Truth)

Sometimes, earth’s climate has warmed so that the oceans have risen and covered much of the Earth. Each of the changes may seem extreme, but they usually occurred slowly over many thousands of years. Now earth’s temperature increases above natural it will cause a lot of problems after many years.

Mr. Al Gore says the main causes of global warming are the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Global warming scientist interpreted that consisting co2 layers which caused by smokes and co2 gases trapped the heat in the earth and that’s help to increase the earth temperature.

According to Mr. Al Gore there are many effects of global warming. The main effect is that it could increase the average world temperature after many years. As a result of that icebergs could melt and raise the sea level so sea waves could cover the coastal cities such as India, Florida and New York. Also he suggests some solutions that will help to reduce the percentage of global warming. For example using a solar energy and hydrostatic energy.
